Pioneer Defeat Jackson in 4 Sets in the 1st Home Game of the Programs Return

Game Outcome:

Pioneer Gym was electric tonight for the first volleyball match in 11 years.  Thanks to incredible support from the Baseball, Soccer, Softball & both Basketball teams, Delta shook off a slow start to secure a 3-1 win in the match with Jackson College.

Standout student athlete:

The standout student athletes of this game were Mimi Decroce & Sam Venegas. The Freshmen's current statistics for the season are: Mimi with 10 kills, 2 solo blocks, 2 digs and Sam with 8 kills, and 2 serving aces.

Sam & Mimi controlled the net throughout the night, both with blocks, kills & smart net play.  The extra work they're both putting in is really showing!

Highlights from game:

During the matchup between the Pioneers­­­­­­­­­­­­ and the Jets, there were some long rallies where the Pioneers came out on top.

Game Statistics/Outcomes:

The Pioneers secured the win 3-1 with 14 serving aces, 44 kills, 7 solo blocks, and 73 digs.

Coaches comments:

The team was definitely feeling the pressure of the first home opener in 11 years, but they fed off the crowd and brought home the victory.  I'm so proud of these girls and the work they are putting in!

Any adjustments for next game:

We've got to start off faster and secure the win for the first set.  We keep starting out behind, and we need to figure out how to win that first set & build off of that momentum.  We talked more tonight on the court and kept our feet moving, and we need to continue to do that.

The support of the Delta Athletic Family was absolutely incredible!!  We're so thankful & humbled to have the support of our fellow Delta athletes and coaches as well as an AD who has fought to get this program back and has made sure we are supported and valued as we continue to bring Delta College Volleyball back!
