Delta College came up short in both games of a home doubleheader against Bay College on Saturday, falling 6–1 in the opener and 3–2 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Bay 6, Delta 1
In a game that was scoreless through six innings, Bay College erupted for six runs in the top of the seventh to steal the win. Delta starter Bryson Luth was dominant through six innings, allowing just four hits and no runs while striking out six in a no-decision.
Offensively, Delta was limited to three hits. David Walsh, Dylan Rodriguez, and Mason Mellott each recorded one, with Caiden Larkin driving in the Pioneers' lone run in the bottom of the seventh. Larkin also added a stolen base and turned a double play in the field.
Relievers Landon Sella and John McNicol were unable to contain Bay's offense in the seventh, combining to allow six earned runs.
Game 2: Bay 3, Delta 2
Delta jumped out to an early 2–0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Bay responded with single runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings to complete the sweep.
The Pioneers got RBI contributions from Mason Mellott and saw extra-base power from Jack Berthiaume, who doubled and added a hit. Layke Hornung and David Walsh each added singles, while Tyler Smith swiped a base.
On the mound, Tyson Bauman threw a complete game, striking out five and walking five while surrendering just three hits and two earned runs. Despite his strong outing, he was tagged with the loss after Bay pushed across the go-ahead run in the sixth.
Delta looks to regroup as they continue their early-season homestand.
