April 9, 2025 — University Center, MI
Delta College baseball dropped its second game of a home doubleheader against Muskegon Community College on Tuesday. After a late rally in Game 1 the Pioneers were able to overcome the early surge from Muskegon.
Game 1: Muskegon 7, Delta 8
Delta nearly completed an incredible comeback after falling behind 7–1 through five innings. The Pioneers clawed back with two runs in the sixth and exploded for five in the bottom of the seventh, with a walkoff in the seventh, winning them game 1.
Jack Berthiaume led the charge with a 3-for-4 day and four RBIs, including a pair of doubles. Calvin Gouin chipped in a two-run double of his own, while Dom Huyck knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly. Dylan Rodriguez and Layke Hornung each crossed the plate, and Gouin also swiped a base.
On the mound, Wyatt Armbruster started and went 2.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits and three walks. John McNicol took over in relief, tossing 4.2 innings and giving up just one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
Game 2: Muskegon 10, Delta 6
Game 2 followed a similar script, with Muskegon jumping out early before a massive five-run fifth inning widened the gap. Delta again rallied late, plating five runs over the final three frames, but couldn't quite close the margin.
Jack Berthiaume stayed hot with a triple and three RBIs, while David Walsh went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Joseph Kowalak scored three times and added an RBI, while Layke Hornung contributed two hits and a stolen base.
Delta used five pitchers in the nightcap. Bryson Luth gave the Pioneers a solid start, allowing two runs in three innings. Preston Mata and Brady Ellison pitched in the middle frames before Mason Beaver and Eli Wall finished out the game. Delta's bullpen held Muskegon to just one run over the final two innings.
