Delta College Baseball Spring Break Overview
Delta College baseball wrapped up a busy 10-game spring break stretch that featured a pair of wins and several strong individual performances against Edison State, Rays Collegiate, Eastern University, Bryant & Stratton (Ohio), Terra State and Finger Lakes Community College. The Pioneers opened the trip with a doubleheader at Edison State on Feb. 28 before picking up back-to-back wins on March 2 over Rays Collegiate and Eastern University. Delta continued the trip with two games against Bryant & Stratton (Ohio) on March 3, two more against Terra State on March 5 and a final doubleheader against Finger Lakes Community College on March 6.

Game 1 – Edison State 6, Delta College 5
Delta College battled throughout the opener, but Edison State used a late push to edge the Pioneers 6-5.
Delta got on the board in the second inning when Ben Misenar drove in two runs with a single, scoring Ben Mackenzie and Nicholas Naylor. Edison State answered with one run in the second and two more in the third, but the Pioneers regained the lead in the fifth.
Jack Berthiaume delivered a triple to center field that scored Dawson Doan, then later came home on a wild pitch to put Delta in front, 5-3. Edison State answered with three runs in the sixth to take the lead for good.
Berthiaume finished with a triple, one RBI, and two runs scored, while Misenar drove in two runs. Joseph Kowalak also added a hit for Delta.
Mason Beaver started on the mound and allowed three runs over five innings while striking out two. Pierce Ruttan took the loss in relief.
Game 2 – Edison State 2, Delta College 0
In the second game of the day, Edison State completed the sweep with a 2-0 shutout.
The hosts scored both runs in the opening inning, taking advantage of a passed ball before adding another on a sacrifice fly. Delta settled in from there, but the early deficit held up.
The Pioneers were limited to two hits, coming from Doan and Mackenzie.
Nicholas Naylor turned in a strong relief outing, tossing 5.2 hitless innings and striking out two to keep Delta within reach the rest of the way.
Game 3 – Delta College 4, Rays Collegiate 2
Delta earned its first win of the trip on March 2 with a 4-2 victory over Rays Collegiate.
Rays Collegiate scored first in the second inning, but the Pioneers answered in the fourth when Joseph Kowalak doubled to right field to score Mackenzie. After Rays reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning, Delta responded again in the fifth when Nicholas Naylor scored on a misplayed ball in center field.
The Pioneers took control in the sixth. Misenar brought home Kowalak on a fielder's choice, and Mitchell Radosa later scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 4-2.
Kowalak led the way with a double and RBI, while Berthiaume and Naylor also recorded hits.
On the mound, John McNicol allowed two runs over four innings, while Gabriel Shores earned the win with three scoreless innings in relief.
Game 4 – Delta College 4, Eastern University 0
Delta made it back-to-back wins later on March 2, shutting out Eastern University 4-0.
The Pioneers broke through in the third inning when Austin Huyck reached on an error that allowed both Misenar and Berthiaume to score. Delta added insurance in the fifth on an RBI single from Doan, then picked up another run in the sixth on an RBI single by Misenar.
Delta totaled six hits in the win, including two from Doan. Berthiaume, Mackenzie, Fluty, and Misenar each added one hit, while Huyck drove in two runs.
Camden Parker earned the win after throwing five scoreless innings and allowing just three hits. Colby Dipzinski and Preston Mata closed out the shutout.
Game 5 – Bryant & Stratton (Ohio) 7, Delta College 6
The Pioneers came up just short in a back-and-forth matchup against Bryant & Stratton (Ohio) on March 3, falling 7-6.
Delta answered an early run with a three-run first inning. Huyck doubled in Berthiaume, Mackenzie followed with an RBI groundout, and Huyck later scored on a passed ball.
The Pioneers added two more runs in the third, including an RBI single by Berthiaume, and Doan gave Delta another boost in the fifth with an inside-the-park home run.
Bryant & Stratton rallied late with four runs in the seventh to steal the win.
Doan finished 2-for-3 with a home run and RBI, while Huyck went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Berthiaume and Mackenzie also drove in runs for Delta.
Zachary Laures started and worked 5.2 innings, allowing three runs, two earned.
Game 6 – Bryant & Stratton (Ohio) 8, Delta College 4
Delta dropped the second game against Bryant & Stratton, 8-4.
Bryant & Stratton built an early lead and added to it with a two-run homer in the fourth. Delta answered with three runs in the fifth inning. Doan picked up an RBI after being hit by a pitch, Mackenzie added a sacrifice fly, and another run scored on a passed ball. Delta scored once more in the sixth when Fluty came home on another passed ball.
Berthiaume led the Pioneers by going 3-for-3 with a double. Huyck, Kowalak, Radosa, Misenar, and Ramsdell also had hits in the game.
Game 7 – Terra State 13, Delta College 8
The Pioneers jumped out to a fast start against Terra State on March 5 but could not hold off the visitors in a 13-8 loss.
Delta scored five runs in the first inning. Mackenzie doubled home two runs, Kowalak followed with a two-run single, and Radosa added an RBI single to cap the frame.
Terra State responded with four runs in the third and four more in the fourth to swing momentum. Delta scored three more times in the fifth, but the comeback fell short.
Berthiaume went 3-for-5 to lead the offense, while Mackenzie added two hits and two RBIs. Talan Debo collected two hits, and Kowalak drove in two runs.
Game 8 – Terra State 21, Delta College 7
In the second meeting with Terra State, Delta fell 21-7 in a five-inning contest.
The Pioneers again started strong, scoring five runs in the first inning. Radosa highlighted the frame with three RBIs, while Kowalak, Binder, and Ruttan also contributed runs batted in.
Terra State quickly answered and used big innings throughout the game to pull away.
Delta recorded nine hits in the contest, with Berthiaume, Mackenzie, Kowalak, Debo, Lederer, Radosa, Fluty, Ellison, and Ramsdell all collecting hits.
Game 9 – Finger Lakes Community College 10, Delta College 2
Delta opened its March 6 doubleheader against Finger Lakes with a 10-2 loss.
The Pioneers scored once in the first inning and again in the third, but Finger Lakes took control with four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Berthiaume paced Delta by going 2-for-3 with a double. Huyck, Kowalak, Radosa, Mackenzie, and Ramsdell also recorded hits.
McNicol started and worked four innings, while Mata and Dipzinski also saw action on the mound.
Game 10 – Finger Lakes Community College 14, Delta College 3
Delta closed the trip with a 14-3 loss in the final game against Finger Lakes Community College.
Finger Lakes built an early lead with five runs in the first and four more in the second. Delta answered with two runs in the third on an RBI walk from Mackenzie and an RBI single from Radosa. The Pioneers added one more run in the fourth when Logan Sullivan grounded out to score Misenar.
Delta finished with seven hits in the game. Berthiaume, Mcllhargie, Kowalak, Radosa, Binder, Misenar, and Wood each recorded a hit.
