Pioneers Surge Past Lumberjacks in Commanding 79-60 Triumph
Alpena, MI – February 25, 2025 – Delta College secured a convincing 79-60 road victory over Alpena Community College on Tuesday night at Park Arena. The Pioneers put together a well-balanced performance, led by a dominant scoring effort from Jayden Hackett.
Hackett was the clear standout of the night, posting a game-high 33 points on 12-of-23 shooting, including four three-pointers. He also contributed six rebounds in 33 minutes of play. Willie Humphrey controlled the paint for Delta, recording a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Delta College set the tone early, outscoring Alpena 38-26 in the first half. The Pioneers carried that momentum into the second half, adding 41 more points to seal the comfortable win. Despite a rough night from beyond the arc (5-of-28, 17.9%), Delta's efficient overall shooting (44.8%) and dominance on the boards (44 total rebounds to Alpena's 34) proved to be key factors in their success.
Evan Booker contributed 12 points, four steals, and three rebounds for Delta, while Jaylen Carter added 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench. The Pioneers also displayed solid ball movement, finishing the game with 11 assists.
Alpena Community College struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting just 32.9% from the field and 17.1% from three-point range. Robert Williams led the Lumberjacks with 20 points, while Derian Williams chipped in 13 points and five rebounds. Xavier Blumberg was a presence on the glass with a team-high nine rebounds but was limited to just seven points.
Turnovers were relatively even, with both teams committing 15 apiece, but Delta's ability to convert second-chance opportunities and control the defensive boards gave them a decisive edge. Alpena's offensive struggles were evident as they managed just 26 first-half points and couldn't close the gap in the second half.
With this victory, Delta College continues to build momentum as they head toward the postseason, while Alpena looks to regroup and finish their season strong.
