Men's Basketball Takes Down Alpena
ALPENA, Mich. — Delta College men's basketball put together a strong offensive performance Friday afternoon, pulling away in the second half to earn a 91–80 road win over Alpena Community College at Park Arena.
The Pioneers led 37–35 at the break before exploding for 54 second-half points, shooting an impressive 53.3% from the field after halftime to take control of the game.
Delta was led by Deontrey Gary, who finished with a game-high 23 points, knocking down 6 field goals and 9 free throws while also adding 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Sir Real Smith delivered an all-around performance, pouring in 22 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists in 40 minutes of action.
Bryan Belcher added 11 points, while Doydas Kacinskas chipped in 13 points on efficient shooting. Delta also got key contributions off the bench, with Amari Taylor scoring 6 points and Ricky Sparks adding 3 points and 6 rebounds.
As a team, Delta shot 42.9% from the field and 71.0% from the free-throw line, while winning the rebounding battle 49–38. The Pioneers also recorded 17 assists, showcasing balanced ball movement throughout the game.
Alpena CC was led by Derian Williams, who scored 20 points, but Delta's efficiency and rebounding proved too much to overcome.
With the win, Delta College improves to 5–13 overall and 2–5 in conference play.
