Men's Basketball Takes Down Muskegon
The Delta College men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 73–64 victory over Muskegon Community College on Wednesday night, pulling away in the second half behind strong performances on both ends of the floor.
After a competitive first half, Delta carried a slim 33–29 lead into the break before turning up the intensity over the final 20 minutes. The Pioneers outscored Muskegon 40–35 in the second half, using balanced scoring, aggressive rebounding, and timely defense to secure the win.
Sir'Real Smith led all scorers with a dominant performance, pouring in 31 points while grabbing 15 rebounds to record a double-double. Smith was active all night, going 11-for-25 from the field and 8-for-12 at the free-throw line. Deontrey Gary added 15 points, knocking down four field goals and six free throws, while also dishing out four assists.
Jaylen Carthan provided a spark off the bench, contributing 8 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals, creating momentum with his defensive pressure. Dovydas Kačinskas chipped in 6 points on efficient shooting, including two three-pointers, as Delta finished with seven made threes on the night.
The Pioneers controlled the glass, outrebounding Muskegon 45–31, and forced key turnovers down the stretch to maintain their lead. Delta also converted 16 free throws, capitalizing on opportunities late to seal the victory.
