Delta College Golf Team Gears up for Exciting 2024-25 Season
As the fall season approaches, Delta College's men's golf team is preparing to tee off for what promises to be an exhilarating 2024-25 season. Building on an exceptional season from last year, the team is looking to strive for even greater heights.
The 2023-24 season was a standout for the Delta College Pioneers. "Competing at the national championship was an amazing experience for our team", says head coach Eli Parrent. Despite facing challenging weather conditions and a tough course, the team delivered their best performance when it mattered most. Coach praised the squad's resilience and skill, noting, "I was really proud of how all the guys played and handled five rounds on a really tough golf course."
That national stage experience has instilled a strong sense of confidence in the returning players, fueling their determination to return to Chautauqua for the next championship. "The week we spent at the national tournament has given the returning players a great sense of confidence, knowing they belong and can compete at the highest level of our sport," Coach added.
The upcoming fall season is set to be a critical period, with the team competing for the MCCAA Eastern Conference championship. The fall schedule features nine tournaments, four of which will directly influence the conference standings. Additionally, players will compete for all-conference and all-freshman team honors, adding extra stakes to the early part of the season.
The 2024-25 roster sees a blend of experience and fresh talent. Returning veterans Nathan Cleghorn, Kevin Groulx, and Jake Look will lead the team. They are joined by three new players—Carson Shampo, Owen Wendt, and Odin Medrick—who have already made a strong impression in practice rounds. Coach is excited about the team's dynamic, noting that the newcomers have seamlessly meshed with the team, making practice highly competitive and productive.
As the team prepares for the fall tournaments, their sights are set on a successful season with hopes to return to the national stage. The path to achieving this goal involves winning the regional tournament, a challenge they are ready to embrace. The fall season will be followed by a break during which the team will focus on indoor training and individual instruction, refining their skills for the spring championship season.
Coach is enthusiastic about the season ahead, looking forward to a year filled with golf, friendship, and growth. "The golf season here at Delta is nonstop, and we are so excited for this season to begin," Coach remarked. "I truly am blessed to coach a great group of young men, who have great futures ahead of them."
The team will kick-off their season Friday, September 20 at Kirtland Community College.
