Delta College Golf Places Sixth at The NJCAA Division III Golf Championship
From June 3rd through the 6th, the Delta College Men's Golf team had an experience that few could ever imagine. They competed in the NJCAA Division III Golf Championship in Chautauqua, New York.
Day one started off excellently. Nathan Cleghorn led the pack with a perfect score of 72. Owen Wendt followed with a score of 80. Kevin Groulx shot an 82, Carson Shampo finished with an 83, and Owen Halstead completed the day with an 85. The team finished 42 over par to close out the first day.
On day two in Chautauqua, Owen Halstead led the Pioneers, shooting a 75. Nathan Cleghorn was close behind with a 77. Kevin Groulx shot an 83, Carson Shampo followed with an 84, and Owen Wendt finished with a 92. Delta ended the day 51 over par.
Day three was arguably their best performance on the links. The team finished exceptionally well. Owen Halstead shot a perfect 72, Nathan Cleghorn followed with a +3, Owen Wendt finished with an 82, Kevin Groulx shot an 83, and Carson Shampo finished with an 86. The team ended the day 38 over par.
On day four, the final day of the championship, Owen Halstead once again led the scoring for the Pioneers with a 75. Owen Wendt followed with a 79. Nathan Cleghorn and Kevin Groulx both shot 81, and Carson Shampo finished with a 96. The team concluded the final day 52 over par.
The team had an outstanding showing at the NJCAA Division III Golf Championship, finishing with an overall score of +112 and placing 6th in the nation. A huge congratulations to Nathan Cleghorn and Owen Halstead, who earned All-American status following their performances at the championship.
