Lady Pioneers Split on Day Three of Spring Trip

Orlando, Florida – Coach Mullard has lamented about his offense not being consistent thus far in the young season and on Tuesday that was the case once again as the Pioneers opened up their double-header against Owens with an 8-0 victory before being shut down in the nightcap, 10-1.  The split leaves DC with a 2-4 record on the year.

The Lady Pioneers scored four runs in the second inning before plating one in the fifth and three in the sixth to win going away in game one.  Cassidy Reichard (4-4), Alysaa Westphal (2-3), Shelby Bailey (3-4, 2 RBI) and Bryanna Collins (2-3, 3 RBI) all had big offensive games for Delta.  In all, Delta banged out 16 hits as a team, which was more than enough for starting pitcher   Jensen Tchorzynski.
 

Tchorzynski picked up the win in the circle to up her record to 2-1 on the year while limiting the Express to just three hits and striking out four.  Defensively, the Pioneers had just one error in the six inning mercy win.

 "A big victory over a great program," said head coach Randy Mullard.  "This is the first game where we put everything together – offense, defense and pitching.  "We were consistent and aggressive."
 

Game two saw the bats fall silent for Delta as the offense only collected four hits total, two of which came off the bat of Reichard.  After the score was tied at one apiece in the first, Owens went on to score single runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to win going away. 

Emily Jankowski took the loss on the mound surrendering eight hits and giving up five earned runs.  It was her first loss on the year.
 

 "We put a young pitcher on the mound who threw pretty well, but we simply didn't back her up defensively or offensively," said Mullard.  Delta committed five errors in the contest.

The Pioneers will wrap up their spring trip swing with a double-header on Thursday against Owens and Kalamazoo Valley.
