Pioneers Blank Bay in Dominant Doubleheader Sweep

Delta College softball dominated on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Bay College in a pair of five-inning shutouts by scores of 14–0 and 9–0. The Pioneers were firing on all cylinders, combining for 23 runs on 15 hits while holding Bay to just three total baserunners across 10 innings.

Game 1: Delta 14, Bay 0
Delta's offense exploded in the early innings, putting up 10 runs in the third and cruising to a five-inning win. The Pioneers tallied seven hits and took advantage of Bay's struggles on the mound, drawing four walks and capitalizing on defensive miscues.

Jolie Buschlen went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Katie Chinavare, Kortney Kotenko, and Claire Cline each added RBIs of their own. Megan Mankey sparked the rally with a triple and scored twice, while Izabel Lathrom, Alicia Candelaria, and Buschlen also swiped bases.

On the mound, Geena Gauthier was lights out. The sophomore tossed a five-inning one-hitter, walking two and facing just 17 batters in the shutout victory.

Game 2: Delta 9, Bay 0
Delta struck early again in the nightcap, scoring two in the first and four more in the second before tacking on three in the fourth to secure the sweep. Hannah Hycki led the charge with a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate and two runs scored.

Megan Mankey and Izabel Lathrom each delivered two RBIs with triples, while McKayla Methner added an RBI of her own. Jolie Buschlen also stayed hot with two more hits, and Bonnie Browning reached base twice.

Cadence Swartz matched Gauthier's dominance in the circle, scattering two hits and a walk over five scoreless innings while striking out five. She faced just 18 batters en route to her first win of the season.

Delta returns to action looking to build on its momentum after a complete performance on both sides of the ball.
