Women's Basketball falls short against Owen's Community College 71-79
Delta College came up short on the road, falling 79–71 to Owens Community College on December 1, 2025. Despite a late push and several strong individual performances, turnovers and second-chance opportunities proved costly for the Pioneers.
Makayla Watkins led the charge with an efficient 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting, adding 12 rebounds to record a double-double. Aya Mosley followed with 19 points, knocking down three triples and grabbing 13 rebounds in one of her most complete games of the season. Flona Melsel added 6 points and a pair of assists, while Alexis Schlatter contributed 7 points and four rebounds off the bench.
Delta showed flashes of momentum, particularly in the third quarter, where defensive pressure forced key stops and allowed the offense to cut into the deficit. However, Owens capitalized on turnovers, converting 33 Delta miscues into points that ultimately swung the game. Despite shooting over 52 percent from the free-throw line and competing on the glass, the Pioneers struggled to consistently generate clean looks from the perimeter, finishing 1-for-18 from three.
Delta moves forward with several bright spots, including the strong interior play from Watkins and Mosley, and improved bench production. The Pioneers will look to regroup and return to the win column as they continue their non-conference slate.
