The Delta College Women's Soccer team showed grit and determination Wednesday night, coming away with a 1-0 victory over Kellogg Community College in what proved to be a true defensive battle.
Freshman forward Anna Weston found the back of the net in the middle of the game for the lone goal for the Pioneers. That goal set the tone for the night, with the Pioneers leaning on both their relentless defense and attacking pressure to control the game from start to finish.
Delta's back line stayed composed, limiting Kellogg to just two total shots in the match. Goalkeeper Mia Warner held her ground, making the only save she needed to secure the shutout.
On offense, the Pioneers kept the pressure on, unleashing 26 shots, 15 of them on target and earning seven corner kicks. While Kellogg's keeper did her best to keep the game within reach, Delta's dominance in possession and attack never wavered.
"I am super proud of our girls. They did a great job in a tough game early in the season. We are going to continue working hard to get better and learn more from this game" - Head Coach Damon Amey
The pioneers continue to succeed in the MCCAA conference play, moving to 2-0 in the season, and 3-0-1 overall.
