Delta College Women's Soccer wins in a 8-0 shutout over Owens Community College
The Delta College Women's Soccer team extended its shutout streak to five consecutive matches with a dominant 8–0 victory over Owens Community College on Friday, September 26th.
The Pioneers wasted no time setting the tone. Just 20 seconds into the match, Abby Hendy played a ball behind the Owens backline that found Alahna Beckett, who calmly finished to make it 1–0. Less than a minute later, Brooke Swartz capitalized on a long pass from Molly Siler, doubling the lead. Swartz added her second goal in the 8th minute off a feed from Bella Workman, securing a 3–0 advantage within the opening 10 minutes.
Delta continued its relentless offensive pressure. With 16 minutes remaining in the half, Ciara Kelly set up Workman, who slotted home the Pioneers' fourth goal. Shortly before halftime, Sydney Lambert connected with Avery Dean on a long ball across the field. Dean beat her defender and extended the lead to 5–0 heading into the break.
The second half brought more of the same. In the 52nd minute, Nia Smith weaved through multiple defenders before scoring to make it 6–0. Just three minutes later, Swartz completed her hat trick with a clinical finish from a corner delivered by Siler. Despite continued offensive pressure, the Pioneers' final goal came in the 79th minute when Dean recorded her second of the match, sealing the 8–0 victory.
While the offense showcased its firepower, the defensive unit delivered another composed performance, limiting Owens to minimal opportunities and securing the team's fifth consecutive shutout. Delta has not conceded a goal since its season opener against Madison College on August 15.
The Pioneers now improve to 6–0–1 overall and 4–0 in conference play. With a quick turnaround, the pioneers travel for their next conference matchup against St. Clair County Community College with kickoff scheduled for Sunday, September 28, at 4:00 p.m.
