Delta College Women’s Soccer Extends Shutout Streak to Nine with Victory Over Marian University Ancilla
The Delta College Women's Soccer Team extended its defensive shutout streak to nine consecutive games with an 8–0 victory over Marian University Ancilla on Saturday, October 11. The Pioneers' defense has been exceptional all season, limiting opponents to few scoring opportunities while also contributing to the team's offensive build-up.
Offensively, Delta demonstrated its depth and versatility with seven different players finding the back of the net and three players recording assists. The team's balanced attack showcased its ability to generate scoring opportunities across all areas of the field.
The scoring opened early, with Anna Weston putting the Pioneers ahead in just the 3rd minute. In the 11th minute, Alexa Verhelst doubled the lead with a well-placed free kick to the lower left corner. Two minutes later, Isabella Workman capitalized on a breakaway opportunity off a pass from Brooke Swartz to make it 3–0. The pair would switch roles moments later, with Workman assisting Swartz's goal in the 17th minute.
Sophomore Paige Freed closed out the first half with two goals, including one assisted by freshman Marcela Facundo, giving Delta a 5–0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Pioneers continued their relentless attack in the second half. Just five minutes in, Ayla Kreger extended the lead with a precise left-footed strike to the corner. Freed added her second goal of the night off a corner kick in the 56th minute, and freshman Alahna Beckett sealed the win with a goal assisted by Swartz to bring the final score to 8–0.
Delta dominated offensively with 18 total shots, converting on eight, while maintaining firm control of possession and holding their opponents to minimal chances.
The Pioneers' balanced offense and disciplined backline have been key to their success this season, with contributions coming from nearly every position. Delta will look to continue its momentum as they return home to face Jackson Community College this Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in a conference matchup.
