Pioneers Dominate Conference Opener with 30-Point Victory Over Kirtland
GRAYLING, MI – The Delta College Women's Basketball Team opened conference play with a commanding performance, defeating the Kirtland Firebirds 76-46 to improve to 9–7 overall and 1–0 in conference action.
The Pioneers demonstrated exceptional offensive efficiency, shooting 52.5% from the field (32-of-61) while controlling the tempo from opening tip to final buzzer. Delta's balanced scoring attack and disciplined execution allowed them to maintain control throughout all four quarters.
Alexis Schlatter paced the Pioneers with a team-high 15 points on seven field goals in just 21 minutes of action. Makayla Watkins and Aiya Mosley each contributed 10 points, with Watkins adding seven rebounds to her stat line. Damaya Hartwick and Anna Neetz each added eight points, exemplifying Delta's well-rounded offensive approach.
Delta College dominated the boards, outrebounding Kirtland 32-27, including seven offensive rebounds that generated crucial second-chance opportunities. The Pioneers also recorded 10 assists, demonstrating their commitment to unselfish ball movement and team-oriented play.
Defensively, Delta applied consistent pressure, forcing 12 turnovers and recording five steals to disrupt Kirtland's offensive rhythm while creating transition opportunities. The Pioneers executed in crucial moments at the free-throw line, converting 56.3% of their attempts to seal the victory.
