Women's Basketball win 70-41 in true Dominance against Alpena
ALPENA, MI – The Delta College women's basketball team made a powerful statement on the road this past Saturday, January 31, 2026, dismantling Alpena Community College in a 70-41 blowout. The Pioneers utilized a relentless defensive press and a massive advantage on the glass to secure a key MCCAA Northern Conference win.
From the opening whistle, Delta dictated the tempo. The Pioneers came out firing in the first quarter, outscoring the Lumberjacks 23-7. By halftime, Delta had established a comfortable cushion that they would only continue to expand.
While Delta's shooting percentage hovered around 26.7%, their success came from sheer volume. The Pioneers effectively lived in the paint and on the offensive glass, generating second and third-chance opportunities that Alpena simply couldn't defend.
Delta's "strength in numbers" philosophy was the story of the day, as 12 different players contributed to the scoring column.
Ellianna Miller: The primary spark plug for the offense, Miller poured in a game-high 16 points, including four critical triples that broke Alpena's zone.
Makayla Watkins: Anchored the interior with a double-digit rebounding effort, pulling down 11 boards to go with 6 points and 2 steals.
Annaka Neetz: Relentless on the glass, Neetz grabbed 10 rebounds (6 offensive) in limited minutes, epitomizing the Pioneers' hustle.
The Pioneers' defense was the true catalyst for the 29-point victory. Delta forced Alpena into a long afternoon of turnovers and contested shots, recording 15 total steals. The Lumberjacks were held to just 3 points in the second quarter and never managed more than 12 points in any single period.
